Tony Davies, Professional
at the Launch of the ‘state of the art’ golf teaching studio
A well-known Flintshire Professional has launched a ‘state of the art’ golf teaching studio set to transform the way local players learn and develop their game.
Tony Davies, who has been Professional at Mold Golf Club since November has officially opened the latest addition to the Club’s teaching facilities which now includes the GC Quad launch monitor and large screen as well as the GC Quad technology for putting coaching and training.
At an Open House event, Tony invited Club members and visitors to call in to try the GC Quad which is training technology used widely by Tour Professionals and coaches as well as amateurs of all abilities.
Tony explains: “GC Quad is a highly sophisticated piece of kit which offers advanced data analysis and insights into the swing, mechanics, ball flight, distance and club performance. Four camera photometric technology uses algorithms to estimate what happened at impact which all helps when it comes to teaching, club fittings and helping players improve their game. It’s also perfect for social, fun play as the software offers players the chance to play with up to three friends on some of the finest ‘virtual’ courses from around the world, including St. Andrews and Gleneagles. The new putting area is already proving popular with players needing help in that area and will also be used for Scotty Cameron putter fittings.
“This is a facility I have wanted for years so to have the opportunity to transform an empty indoor space for teaching and club fitting has been a dream, alongside a retail shop and offering repairs. It takes the coaching facilities at the Club, which already include a four-bay covered long game range, a chipping area, putting green and nets, to the next level. My main brands for fitting are Ping, Titleist, Callaway and Taylor Made but I have access to any product across all brands via the Foremost Central Buying Group.
“As the new Professional at the Club it is a privilege to be able to do this and to be able to support the members in this way. My thanks go to everyone at the Club who has helped to make this possible. Mold Golf Club is a fantastic place to work, and I have been met with nothing but warmth and support for which I am very grateful”
Tony Davies started his career as the Assistant Pro at Tinsley Park Golf Club in Sheffield in 1984 at the age of 21 when at the time he was the youngest PGA Professional in the UK. In 1985 he moved to Flintshire to take up the Head Pro position at Old Padeswood Golf Club where he stayed for 27 years. A move to neighbour Padeswood and Buckley followed where he remained for 10 years as Head Pro and in later years Club President and Secretary. The move to Mold begins the start of a new chapter.
