Gateway to Wales Spring Golf Festival 2025

Gateway to Wales Golf held their eighth Spring Golf Festival over the Spring Bank Holiday between the 24th and
26th May at Hawarden, Northop and Holywell Golf Clubs. Despite blustery showers, wind and rain over 100
golfers battled it out to win the Gateway to Wales Spring Golf Festival Aggregate 4BBB Championship 2025.

This event was kindly sponsored by the Springfield Hotel & Health Club, Holywell and is now an established
golf tournament for ladies and gents to play in a 4BBB format . It attracts golfers from all over the United
Kingdom many of whom book from year to year. Mr Sebastian Janney, Managing Director of the Springfield
Hotel & Health Club commented “ We are delighted to be involved with sponsoring this highly successful
event which is a major boost to tourism in the area”

Joyce Speed the event organiser, speaking on behalf of Gateway to Wales Golf said “ The weather was very
challenging for our guests but it didn’t appear to detract from their enjoyment of all three courses”. In what
was a very busy time for her she expressed thanks to all the green staff and member volunteers of the
participating golf clubs who ensured there was a warm welcome to the visiting competitors.

The three day aggregate prize of £150 and winners of “The Gateway to Wales Spring Golf Festival 4BBB
Champions 2025” were local duo Dave Lefley of Prestatyn Golf Club and Bob Rixham of Mold Golf Club with an
aggregate score of 125 points.

Dave and Bob scored 42 points at Hawarden GC , 43 points at Northop GC and 40 points at Holywell GC..
Winners of the Mixed Aggregate prize were Andrew and Lesley Priestley of Owston Hall Golf Club, Doncaster
with 119 points. Andrew and Lesley scored 35 points at Hawarden GC, 38 points at Northop GC and won at
Holywell with 46 points.

Winners on the individual competition days at Hawarden GC were Dave Lefley of Prestatyn GC and Bob Rixham
of Mold GC with 42 points, second with 41 points Stuart Vaughan of Uttoxeter GC and Paul Betts of Whittington
Heath GC. Third with 40 points were Andrew Blythe and Lee Simmons of Norwood Park Golf Centre,
Nottinghamshire. Fourth were Keith Harrison and Ian Grant of Wath, Rotherham.

On the second day at Northop GC another local duo Greg Thompson of Wrexham GC and Joe Collins of Old
Padeswood won with 45 points..

Second were Andy Jackson and Phil Hunt of Drayton Park GC, Abingdon also with 45 points. Third were Dave
Lefley and Bob Rixham with 43 points and fourth were Clive Barker and Peter Wilson of Chevin GC, Derbyshire
also with 43 points.

On the final day at Holywell , Andrew & Lesley Priestley of Owston Hall GC, Doncaster stole the show with 46
points. Second was Phil Hunt and Andrew Jackson of Drayton Park GC with 42 points. Third also on 42 points
were locals Paul Reilly and Mark Stafford of Prestatyn GC and fourth also with 42 points were Daniel Bulman
and Linden Gray of Filey GC Yorkshire.

Next year’s Gateway to Wales Spring Golf Festival dates and venues have been announced Saturday 23th May at
Hawarden , Sunday 24th May at Northop and Monday 25th May at Holywell . For further details please contact
