Active Flintshire podcast to act as a ‘first step’ in helping residents
find a new hobby.
A new podcast series has been launched to inspire Flintshire residents to take part in new
pastimes and outdoor activities.
Flintshire County Council has launched a podcast series which aims to encourage people to
get out and about and experience the wide variety of pastimes on offer in the county.
The podcast, titled Active Flintshire, will run for six half-hour episodes and will detail a range
of activities and experiences which can be enjoyed within the county, with each episode
focusing on a specific interest.
Hosted by former Daily Post, Wales Business Insider, and NWN Media journalist Josh Morris,
the podcast will feature recreational activities such as horse riding, golfing, cycling and
walking, as well as an episode centred on Flintshire’s coast.
Each episode will interview a local expert on the topic to gain their insights on ideal
locations within Flintshire as well as provide an overview of how residents at any level of
experience can participate in a new activity.
The series teed off on July 6, with the first two episodes talking all things golf in Flintshire as
well as wider sporting opportunities in the area.

and Golf Professional Craig Tudor.
Manager of Mold Golf Club Debbie Barton, who features in the episode, said: “We are very
fortunate in Flintshire to have a great selection of golf courses, as well as driving range
facilities and Golf Clubs offering New2Golf and Back2Golf schemes to help people get
involved.
“There are lots of opportunities for people of all ages to try golf for the first time and the
podcasts will hopefully encourage local residents to have a go at whatever activity they
fancy. There are many proven health and wellbeing benefits to playing golf and it’s such a
sociable and enjoyable sport too.
“Simplifying the information you need and having it available in an easy to listen to format is
a welcome benefit and the more people we can get into the swing the better.”
Sport development manager at Aura Wales Matt Hayes, who is interviewed in the episode
on sports in the county, said: “With the weather warming up, now is the perfect time to get
out and enjoy many of the sporting activities found within the area and the Active Flintshire
podcast provides a great insight into how to get involved.
“From all the sporting activities offered at our leisure centres at Aura Wales to the many
local sporting clubs dotted across Flintshire, we want to encourage everyone no matter their
skill level to get out and try something new.”
Councillor Ian Roberts, Leader of Flintshire County Council, said: “From riding down the
many bridleways found in the county or having a kickabout at football grounds and leisure
centres, there is a huge range of interesting activities and exciting new pastimes which can
be found right on our doorstep.
“The Active Flintshire podcast represents a fantastic way to introduce someone to a new
hobby which can be enjoyed within Flintshire and provide them with all the information
which is needed to take that crucial first step.
“I encourage anyone who is looking for something new to take on this summer or wants to
expand their horizons to give the episodes a listen and hear from people who know all
about the excellent facilities and activities which can be found in the county.”
Active Flintshire launched on podcasting services with a double episode on July 6, with one
episode due to be released every Tuesday for four weeks from July 13.
