Parson’s Pot Presentation 2023

It falls to the club captain each year to select the recipient of the Parson’s Pot. This is an award to an individual who “goes above and beyond” in their contribution to MGC.

In 2023 I was very much guided by both our house chairman Dave Faulkner and by Lady Captain Elly Frankland in choosing Derrick Ryder for this award.

Derrick first offered his services to the house committee when he heard we were struggling to find a local contractor at an affordable cost for the renovation of the Ladies changing rooms.

Dave, who has great experience in this type of work, was extremely impressed by Derrick’s many skills in joinery, brickwork, plastering, plumbing and electrical installation.

His professional approach, enthusiasm and attention to detail enabled the house committee to deliver a quality modernised shower and toilet area at a significant cost saving to the club, and most importantly without the need to engage an outside contractor.

Since this work was completed, Derrick has undertaken numerous other maintenance projects including repairing the oven doors in the kitchen; strengthening the hinges on the buggy compound door; and renewing the gents’ changing room door lock to name but a few.

He was also part of the team of volunteers who assisted with the laying of the concrete on the ‘new’ 7^th path.

He has recently designed the new lean-to shed by the buggy compound and is now in the process of building it along with the other members of the House Committee.

Derrick’s skills, his knowledge and commitment and pride in producing such high standards in the finished product has enabled the club to deliver projects at reasonable cost, enhancing the appearance of the club infrastructure for members and visitors alike.

2024 Update – Derrick continues to work extremely hard for the Club and has been busy constructing the new storage shed by the buggy compound, along with House Chairman Dave Faulkner, Gareth Bellis and Mike ‘Bobby’ Jones. Thank you.
