Mold Golf Club’s outgoing Captains have raised over £10,000 for two charities close to
their hearts.

Colin Davies and Beth Davies, who each remained in office for an extra year due to Covid, have presented £5,136 to North East Wales Search & Rescue (NEWSAR) and the same amount to Wrexham Prostate Cancer Support Group at the Club’s Hail and Farewell event which marks the changeover of captains for the year.

The money was raised over the course of two years, with the bulk secured during 2021 due to heavier restrictions in 2020. Activities included an auction, a charity golf day, raffles, halfway house donations, member contributions, a Ladies Night held just before the pandemic hit and more. Phil Jones of the Prostate Support Group said: “Our role primarily is to support men in the Wrexham and Flintshire areas who think they may have prostate cancer symptoms or have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. In parallel though we have an enthusiastic group who raise money to fund new prostate cancer related technology improvements at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital and the money received from Mold Golf Club will help us immensely in reaching a £60,000 target for our current project.

Mike Waters of NEWSAR added: On behalf of NEWSAR I would like to thank the captains and members at Mold Golf Club for an amazing donation of £5,136, which will be included in our appeal for a new incident control vehicle. NEWSAR provides a voluntary search and rescue service in North East Wales and we rely on donations such as this to operate. Our current control vehicle is very near the end of its working life and the donation from Mold Golf Club is a significant contribution to the £65,000 anticipated cost of a modern replacement. The control vehicle allows us to effectively manage rescues and searches for injured and missing vulnerable people in non-urban areas of our community, and quickly bring specialist equipment to an incident site. Our Incident Control Vehicle is used as a control hub and command centre where Search Managers coordinate team members covering multiple geographic areas. Mold Golf Club members’ generosity will provide practical help to vulnerable people in their community for many years to come.”

Both captains were delighted with the amount raised and thank club members and supporters, especially all businesses who contributed items for the charity auction.
